ANYONE who knows me, knows I am a burger connoisseur. A top notch true professional burger lover who has traveled the world for a fantastic burger. But I have been trying to live healthier and wanted something different. A salad. I know. All burger lovers are giving me the side eye right now like, “Really”? I know. But I am trying to do right. Plus, I just happened to love well made salads. And I knew the PERFECT place. S Bar!

Thanks to some of the ladies at the Louisville Urban League, the S Bar has been a constant topic

of conversation when it is time to go to lunch. However this visit was something for the books. When I went in on this particular Saturday, I was sick. My sinuses and this region of the country do not mix. I am sneezing and looked like death warmed over. The young lady behind the counter asked if I was sick and kept saying I need a shot. I didn’t think a Doctor had anything for the ailment I was suffering from, but okay. Another woman came from the back and explained, “No. You need a Ginger Shot”. A Ginger Shot is a homebrew concoction that they have available among others to cure some of your maladies. The Ginger Shot consists of ginger root, honey and limon juice. They said it would help break down what was wrong with me. The other woman, who was named DJ, brought me a shot. It was nasty. HOT. Apparently, ginger root is hot

and spicy. They told me it wouldn’t taste good but it would help. DJ brought me out half a cup of the Ginger Shot, but warmed up and full of honey that was far more palatable. Now, this helped. It was like a spicy Hot Toddy. If you never had a grandmother fix one of these for you, you missed out.

My wife and kids are big fans of McAlisters. One word. Spuds. My family loves baked potatoes. And S Bar has spuds that rival McAlisters EASY. And cheaper too. If you’re into that sort of thing. S Bar allows you to create your own custom spud and salad but they have such wonderful toppings as shrimp. Listen. Almost all of the ladies at the Urban League seem to love the Shrimp Broccoli Alfredo Spud. This hidden gem sits on the corner of West Burnett Avenue and Dixie Highway, located at 1442 Dixie Highway and is owned

by DJ, the very same woman who made sure I started to feel better with the Ginger Shot concoction. DJ was very pleasant and gracious and if Chic-Fil-A is the gold standard of customer service, DJ made sure this restaurant comes in a very close second. This establishment has whatever you could ask for as far as soups, salads, sandwiches, smoothies and more.

The food is really good, and you get really nice sized portions. Me and the kids went during lunch time on a Saturday and got our food pretty quickly. The food looked delicious and tasted even better than it looked. My “Create your own” Salad was fantastic. So filling and full of fresh ingredients. I make it a habit of not letting the owner know who I am or that I was doing this review. Would I like some free food that they REALLY cooked to make sure the review went well. Absolutely. (We can still do that by the way). However, I like getting an authentic interaction. DJ, the owner was a really nice lady and made this experience very pleasant. The S Bar is a must have when you are in the mood for really good food in a really good atmosphere. It is a definite must have. I recommend this place highly.
