Maybe you can picture it: it’s Saturday night, you have everything you need to look great for Sunday morning service. All is going to plan-- all but your hair. You release your hair from its wrapped cage as you think “Lord, what I am going to do with this hair?” You start pulling down random pieces of hair to get a length check. “It’s getting there,” you think, but what do you want to do? Should you put a bow in it and let it hang free? Should you attempt to #braid it again? You don’t have the time to get a professional’s advice, so you will have to do something yourself and you are in the mood for something classic but not the same 'do that you had last week. But you are no professional and the world of natural hair has many ways to go wrong.

Trust me, I have been there. More than likely, I am there while I am writing this. So let’s help each other. I have enlisted some of the best Natural hair stylists in Louisville to help you create beautiful hairstyles to make your Sunday and all week long. You can go to be in peace. Knowing that your hair is #beautiful. I think I will call it Hair Peace. Yea, I like that.

This time I have asked #Natural hair #stylist, and #salon owner of Krown’d Beauty Bar & Boutique, Tameka Bland, for help. She has given us step-by-step instructions on how to do the perfect Flat press, and more importantly how to keep it looking good. Any professional will tell you it is not a good Idea to flat iron your hair yourself. However, I am an extra special case. I have no business doing anything to my hair at all, but I wouldn’t tell you to do anything that I wouldn’t try. I have followed her steps in order and taken pictures along the way. This is my first time ever flat ironing my hair. So, we are in this together; if I can do it, so can you.

Tameka: Start with a good detangle before you wash your hair. If not, it tangles more when shampooed.

Deborah: I used a detangling comb and brush

Tameka: Wash your hair twice using a clarifying shampoo. Ms. Bland suggests Un-Do-Goo Shampoo; it is great to get rid of build up from the week as well as any old product that is on your hair. You follow this with a #nourishing shampoo. This will give your hair the proper moisture that it needs to pull off the perfect flat iron. For this, I will use Mrs. Bland’s very own product, Krown'd Kurlz Nourish-Me Shampoo, .

Deborah: I really liked the shampoo. I used only a dime size each wash and it covered my whole head. It smelled great! I usually use a whole palm full of shampoo (like a lot) to get a good foam. But, I didn’t have to use that much.

Tameka: After you #shampoo your hair you condition it. You have two options. You can use Krown'd Kurlz Nourish-Me Conditioner. Let sit for 3 to 5 min to retain moisture. Rinse in cold water (rinsing it out in cold water closes cuticles). Then Kurlz Conditioner for 3 to 5 minutes to add shine, moisture, and treatment. Rinse in cold water to lock in conditioner.

Deborah: I always use a t-shirt to dry my hair. I heard from somewhere that it is better for your hair. It doesn’t pull it out as much and help keeps it from tangling so much.

Tameka: After you rinse your #conditioner, it is time to #detangle. I used Krown'd Kurlz Nourish-Me Detangle Leave-In (it’s also a thermal protector). When looking for a leave-in you want to avoid #silicone because it blocks the moisture you need. Instead, you want ones that protect your hair from elements and things that can #damage it.

Deborah: Both of these leave in here lightweight and smells great! I didn’t use a whole lot.

** Don’t forget that when you comb your hair, move from back to front and tips to root.

Remember the key to a good flat iron is moisture. #Moisture gives it that shine, and longevity that it needs to be great.

Tameka: Use a blow dryer with a comb to stretch hair than Krown'd Sleek Serum it has marshmallow seed #oil. Gives silky feel. Start from the back of your head and work your way up. Whenever you #comb your hair you want to start at the tips of your hair and work your way to the roots. Then you use one with nasal to dry the #roots of your hair.

Deborah: I bought the wrong #dryer but my hair was good and stretched when I was done. And my hair was shiny.

Tameka: Set the flat iron on 400 Degrees. Part your hair into sections, however many you want. #Flatiron your hair. Take thin pieces each time. Go through your hair once with the flat iron and chase it with a comb. It helps if the comb is thin tooth and #heat resistant. You only need to go over it once. Then comb into a style.

Deborah: The product was lightweight and gave my hair a #beautiful shine. But, it was really hard to chase flat iron with a comb.

You can stop here but to turn this flat press into a #silk wrap you will do the following step:

Tameka: Wrap hair around your head with at #brush then wrap your hair with saran wrap for 10 minutes under a dryer, or if you are like me and don’t have a dryer to sit under you can blow-dry for 5 minutes. Take off the wrap and comb out hair into the desired style... * Krown'd Kurlz High #Gloss for summary

Deborah: (I didn’t do this part)

Deborah: Given that I am no pro and this is my FIRST time ever flat ironing my own hair! I think it looks great! I do need my #ends clipped, and I need lots more practice. Still I think I look good. I can move my #hair and everything. I’m so ready for sunday.

*** to help keep your flat iron longer, Mrs. #Bland suggests using #Krown'd Re-Do #Styling Mist. Bounces flat iron back the next day. Simply spray on hair then #wrap hair and put it in a scarf or bonnet. You can also use before a workout. Spray on hair and wrap it up in a #scarf before you work out, taking it down once your hair is dry.
