TV Review: Game of Thrones

This review is difficult to write. There is SO MUCH I could say but I don’t want to do that. I don’t want to give #spoilers to those who may break down and watch it. But it was an #epic piece of art that capture our attention for a decade. The end of an #era. There is much that can be said by some of us that were there from the beginning. I was not one of those people. I was late to the party. Your Pastor invited me to the #party. And what a shindig it was. Eight seasons spanning ten actual years. Countless watch parties and social media arguments. And yes. The show had #dragons. (To be fair, they didn’t show up until the 4th season, but nevertheless, they were there.)

This show was appealing because of the sheer amount of #political #intrigue that it portrayed. Game of Thrones redefined what you believed could happen to main characters. With soap

operas, we are used to #betrayal and #power plays, #lies and #deceit as well as #heartbreak and #redemption. #Game of #Thrones threw all of that out the window. Until the last season that is.

But I digress. Women have been at the #core of this series and some of the most compelling and shocking moments in the entire run of the show centered around #women. Power is a cruel mistress that #seduced all to come close to its enthrall and some of the characters that were endeared by us on this show seemingly were able to keep its embrace at bay. There were small characters who just “drink and know things” that we thoroughly enjoyed as well as characters who chewed the small amount of screen time they were given and made indelible impressions on us.

I don’t know what type of person you need to be to like this show. There are so many people who surprised me that they watched the show with #fervor. This show laid out a new frankness to abuse, cruelty, disability, child abuse, rape, incest, domestic violence, betrayal, hostility,

#suffering, medieval life and #trauma. Trauma is the big one. The way it was handled on the show my the multitude of characters who #suffered from it and how they coped on a daily and even long term basis was the real crux of this show. To see the difference in bad people and people behaving badly, especially when it’s due to trauma is a world of difference. Those parts of the human #experience that seem to be so foreign to us can be drawn out with the right (or wrong) catalyst. We all #suffer. This show just pushed extreme suffering from everyone in our face and showed us that everyone can be affected by it, not just a select few.

Albeit, the Eighth and final season did not amount to everything I wanted it to be, it still had some incredible #moments. Seasons one through four were phenomenal. The writing began to wane but it stayed interesting with some #amazing moments to fuel your excitement for the next episode and season. This series enters my #pantheon of Top 10 greatest TV experiences of all time. Must watch TV.

5 out of 5 crosses.

5 Crosses - “And Heaven and Angels sing….” This was truly anointed!

4 Crosses - “TGBTG” This endeavor was “sho’nuff” blessed!

3 Crosses - That was decent. Good-ish. The saints are pleased.

2 Crosses - Pray for Me. What made me watch that?

1 Crosses - I can’t get that time back. Pray for them.
