POEM

Written By: Crystal Chislum

Mother is she who who gets off work and is late to your game, play or recital.

She sits or stands very conspicuous so you'll know of her arrival.

Mother is she that insisted you wore two sweaters under your coat in the winter.

She is the surgeon that burns a needle tip to remove that little bitty painful splinter.

Mother is she that eats a child serving at dinner so that you're full off the rest.

She also bought more time to save for your birthday surprise by repeating, No not yet.

They're impressed when their child aces a test on sight without preparation.

For the child who failed an exam with much study, she renders extra love, faith and motivation.

Mother is she who rears a bow tie young man to also be as guarded as an alley cat's natural stealth.

She's taught her daughter to achieve goals and frankly; never sell your soul and dignity for wealth.

Mothers may find themselves in heartbreak, assuming both parental roles without conference.

But if daddy lives at home, with him is she on the front porch, fanning lightning bugs, stroking his confidence
