Film Review: Fast Color

Fast Color is a film that helps us to re-explore the term “superhero”. The main #character is named #Ruth, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw. She comes across as severely #troubled and #desperate for something. It takes most of the movie to figure out what that is. She is an “enhanced” human who has the #power to affect nature itself, even shift the #tectonic plates in the earth. She belongs to a family of #enhanced individuals and you later learn that their condition is #hereditary. Passed down through the #women in the family. The mother, Bo, is played flawlessly by Lorraine Toussaint and Ruth’s daughter, Lila, is played by the incredible newcomer Saniyya Sidney, who was last seen on Fox TV’s “The Passage”.

This movie moves slow in the first third of the film and leads up to the reason for the movie in

the second act. The #government is hot on the trail of Ruth because of course they want her powers for their own #nefarious reasons. The problem is Ruth can not #control her #powers and her powers are not fully realized since she ran away from home at a very young age. Added to the #drama are a #dystopian future where #resources are #scarce and #water is as valuable as gold.

This movie is definitely not your run of the mill #superhero movie and slows everything down to examine the #relationships between these women and the choices that they have made to get to

where they are. There are no huge #action pieces or car #explosions. Just steady character development to make you care enough about the characters to not turn the television off when you find out nothing is going to blow up. #Emotional build up with an awe #inspiring finale despite a few plot points clumsily carried out kept me involved in this film. This film says “Girl Power” in a completely different way and if you care about #strong women trying to find their way in this world, then you will enjoy this movie.

3 out of 5 crosses.

Vision Chronicles “Cross” Meter:

5 Crosses - “And Heaven and Angels sing….” This was truly anointed!

4 Crosses - “TGBTG” This endeavor was “sho’nuff” blessed!

3 Crosses - That was decent. Good-ish. The saints are pleased.

2 Crosses - Pray for Me. What made me watch that?

1 Crosses - I can’t get that time back. Pray for them.

0 Crosses - The Devil is a Liar.
