Why Not the YMCA?

Why the Y? Y not! I will tell you Y! Let's Go!! As the new West End Louisville YMCA branch opens in the middle of December 2019, here is a member’s quick perspective on what to expect as you join!

Several years ago, my husband secured a YMCA memberships for us and my teenage children at the Southwest YMCA branch in South Louisville. He paid monthly on a family plan. Some families may qualify for an income adjustment. As my children became adults, college students and eventually parents, we added the grandchildren for the on-site daycare that features children activities. Parents and guardians, these accommodations are really a must have in order to achieve your maximum exercise experience.

Upon my debut visit, I was given a tour and Q&A session in case there wasn't anything addressed by the friendly and knowledgeable staff. My biggest concern was hours of operation. I love to lap swim, so I found it very convenient to swim at 5am and make it to work on time by 8:30 am.

The many areas of healthy activities are designed to meet the physical needs of every person

from swim lessons, lap swim, family swim, youth sports intramurals, weight rooms, stationary biking, treadmills, adult day care, the silver sneakers program, before and after school day care to individual classes. Classes at the branch are administered by Wellness Coaches. They include Zumba, Bike, Swim Aerobics, Group Exercise Class and the new Pop Up exercise classes!

Once you join the YMCA, the new branch may have a Smart Start program tailored for your health goals. Basically, you can develop a personalized health plan and track your progress.

The Y is also a great place to meet people or partner up with your friends and family for an accountability workout.

As with any new activity, always check with your physician before beginning a physical routine.
