A Focus On Stewardship

#Homelessness is a major #epidemic throughout the world. In Kentucky, two students are making strides to service this population and combat this issue.

Sacred Heart Model School’s (SHMS) students focus on #stewardship in the local community which centers around helping the hungry, elderly, homeless, disabled, children in need and sick. Andrew (age 9) and Jake (age 6) are brothers who participated in activities such as creating cards, craft making, and food #donations for those who are in need. These young men are learning many valuable #lessons through SHMS with the most important being that #God blesses us all and that we should always love our neighbor and show them #kindness. Andrew and Jake are examples of young people who are making a difference in the #community.

During their monthly stewardship session this past Holiday season, Jake’s kindergarten class made #inspirational cards for the homeless and delivered them to Wayside Christian Mission. They also donated blankets and coats during one of the coldest winters that Louisville has had in past years. By meeting Chaplain Michael Blunk, they hand delivered the cards to the women at the Hotel Louisville. One woman was so #grateful that she stated, “This card has made my day, I will always keep it.”

Andrew and Jake didn’t stop there. They were #motivated to help Wayside Christian Mission on a monthly basis. After a school holiday #celebration, the students and staff #donated all of the remaining food to the children and men’s #shelter on Jefferson Street. And not too far from this location, these young men handmade silver bracelets with #inspirational charms “Believe in Yourself” and hand delivered them to the ladies at the Louisville Hotel with Chaplain Mike. Even during Valentine’s Day, Andrew and Jake co-hosted a pizza and Valentine craft making party for Wayside children and their families, and on Saint Patrick’s Day, they participated in a food, crafts, and bingo for the #families at Wayside Christian Mission.

In December Andrew and Jake handmade silver bracelets with #inspirational charms “Believe in Yourself” and hand delivered them to the ladies at the Louisville Hotel with Chaplain Mike. In February, Andrew and Jake were able to co-host a pizza and Valentine craft making party for Wayside children and their families at their location on Jefferson Street.

Andrew and Jake are so happy to be members of the SHMS #community that inspires stewardship and giving to others.

As St. Francis of Assisi has stated, “For it is in giving that we receive.”

Andrew and Jake leave every stewardship session and Wayside #volunteer activity with warm hearts.
